Back in '98 I was on a hard Bone Thugs tip not so much for lyrics, b/c I was too young to understand half what they were actually referring to, but more for the beats and melodies. I copped the E 1999 Eternal album and listened to it everyday a million times over till the c.d. was warped. I also developed an obsession with Layzie Bone and was convinced that somehow my 11 year old self would get to one of their shows, meet him and he'd realize how chill I was for a kid that he'd want to be my mentor and teach me cool things about life.

Yeah that dream never came true....le sigh. I devoured every track from Faces of Death to The Art of War and now that I can really appreciate them it just kills even more that this kind of talent barely exists anymore and catching a Bone Thugs shows is never gonna happen.

Never understood all this "hump day" Wednesday hype. I can't focus on how hard one day of the week is going to be to get through when I have some many things pissing me off everyday. Yesterday Spike Lee came to the city for a black history month lecture. Before heading over to hear him I went downtown to do some shopping and at some point my girl friend tells me that Spike is suppose to be doing a signing at HMV which was right next door. I looked out the window and thought "nawww" because the place looked mid day quiet. We checked it out anyways and who should there just chilling in the back but Spike Lee himself.

Security was being a bitch about photos but I got some anyways. Could have cared less about security's rudeness because I walked out with a brand new, freshly autographed DVD box set of some of Spike's best films. Haha suckaaaaaa!

I still haven't unpacked my bags from my 2 month hiatus from the city so every time I walk into my room I trip over my suitcase and give myself a new bruise on some part of my body. Absolutely mouth watering meal, hats off Mich. Barely get to see, much less talk to, the crew these days but we all got it together to hit Ottawa last weekend for the Clipse show at Babylon. The stage was so low and we were so close that it was worth the extra bill I spent on bus tickets and partying but somehow Maeve still brought me back my camera with shit photos.

It' still 2 weeks away but since coming back my time's been consumed by school and anything fun has to take a backseat till my broke ass gets a job. Last year's trip was pretty debaucherous and I don't see how it can be outdone (LIE) but here's some highlights from last year

It's barely a quarter of what went down but we were all too wasted to take proper photos of anything. This is one of the few things keeping me from calling quits in this city and moving back state side. I've been going to the library 4 times a week and I still feel like I'm not getting shit done. Plus I bashed my finger against the door walking in here and have been bleeding for the last half hour! Doesn't look bad but you should see the napkin.

I started my first week of university and it's been a mix of stress, confusion and annoyance with the general population.I thought that I would be around serious intellectuals that I could learn something from but instead it's Dawson 2.0. The same over tanned, high pitch/nasal voice, ugg wearing bitches are there, the "ey bro, bottles and Ed Hardy, bro!" crew are posted at their respective corners and the general mix of "im an original fly boy/girl! Check my out shit!" are all milling around wherever I go. After the first day I realized the chances of me making any friends dropped considerably and it was low to begin with. I thought I had a chance of becoming class buddies (your go to person when you miss a class) with this one girl in my Poli Sci class that sat next to me but she asked me if this was geography 302, I said no and she got up and left. When she got up tho I noticed this girl had a serious ass on her! This was literally a "Ass so fat you could see it from the front" moment. How I didn't notice before I don't know but as she walked away I realized she was on the same ass caliber as some of the girls in this video. Skipped to around 3:20

Boootayyy! I imagined that would have been her theme song. Anyways, as Poli Sci progressed it hit me how screwed I am for the rest of the semester. The kids in that class are a serious CNN/MSNBC tip. I felt like I was on those political debate shows where politicians are yelling about their own agenda while calling out the other guys bullshit but in reality all their diapers are packing heat and they're all guilty of what they're calling the others out on but everyone's acting like their shit don't stink as much as the other guy. Kinda lost myself there but you get what I'm saying. The saddest thing was when the topic of Condoleezza Rice came up. I know she doesn't have the best wrap with the black community but I always thought she should be cut a break because it can't be easy being her and she has done good things. But when I heard some of the things she's done that don't favor black people I thought "Oh...Damn" Like when she wanted to consolidate the ethnic centers at Stanford University or said that she was ANTI affirmative action. Yeah, yeah people say affirmative action is bad because it forces the employer, have to pick the black guy though he's less qualified blah blah blah but I don't remember black people having a choice in being slaves. What the fuck made my ancestors so qualified for the job that lazy ass slave owners didn't want to do themselves? Picking cotton all day in the sun, getting whipped, bound in shackles, being separated from your family and living in a shack with 30 people, no pay AND then being called lazy and good for nothing after all that? I don't think anyone would be jumping for that job. Everybody talks about how slavery ended but the aftermath is still around so if affirmative action gets a black person ahead I'm down and the States is still a very racially driven country. Ok that's enough Jesse Jackson for now, actually that another whole level of crazy I need to not get into now. I completely digress from what I was thinking about; when Bill Fletcher called Condy "...black by accident" I thought "ouch" but after reading up some stuff I thought "well...". Felt like when OJ got off but got snitched on by a couple stool pigeons about 10 years to the day he was acquitted and now he's serving 33 years...DAMN!

In a temporary bout of insanity I decided that I would bake some M&M cookies because how hard could baking some cookies could be? Here are the results:

The next 2 batches came out the same way and I thought "huh...." I couldn't find flour so I figured I'd use pancake mix because it's essentially flour right? Yeah not quite and 3 botched batches later I found some flour and instead of make more batter with it, I threw it in with the M&M pankcake mix. So here's what number 4 looked like.

I've learned that you can't substitute pancake mix for flour but they still turned out ok!

Since coming back to Boca I've been learning how to become apart of my family because I failed that test miserably the last time I lived here. That means putting extra effort in the mom department but it's been even harder because she's going through one those "recapturing my youth" phases. I should clarify that my mom is a hot mom; people think we're sisters everywhere we go. Guys will hit on us as if they've landed the sister duo and even with her sudden change in dress she still kills it. That said she's still my mom and I just can't be her best friend. Now that she's tackled her new fashion sense I guess the next step was the youth interest in the media. I have to make it clear that my mom's not in the know when it comes to celebrities and when watching ANYTHING with her it's constant "who's that?", "where have I seen him/her before" and "I thought he/she was dead" no matter who it is. Not to mention it then leads to a 4 hour lesson on specific said person and EVERYONE they've come in contact with in their lives to which she then says 'OHHHHHH" and forgets everything the moment you're done talking. Today was no different. Of all things that fate had to send her way today of all days was on the most complex subject: hip hop. It all started while we were drinking daiquiri's and watching Kimora:Life in the Fab Lane. After explaining EVERYTHING about Kimora it lead to Russell Simmons which led to explaining RUN DMC, Def Jam and hip hop as a whole. Yesterday my sister hosted a very important party for a documentary she's been working on and as always I left some part of my outfit to the last minute. I'd had my dress picked out for a while and the color wasn't easiest to match but I thought whatevs I'll find a pair heels no problem. Generally shopping is the thing that brings balance into my life and more specifically shopping for shoes is my mecca. No matter what shit situation comes my way, a shopping trip always does the trick but this was a different story. I hit all usual spots like Saks, Bloomies, BCBG and found nothing so I was starting to freak my shit till I hit Nordstrom's and found "the" pair of shoes. I took a seat while I waited for the sales lady to bring me my new Micheal Kors heels and then shit happened. There I am minding my own business when a random older lady comes to look at some shoes on a display case next to me and out of nowhere she starts backing up and looks at me and says "excuse me". I'm looking back at her just thinking "What the fuck?" but didn't really care since I was about to be 6'1 in a sick pair of heels. Then it hits me. The foulest, nastiest, unbearable, unbelievable, unexplainable stench I've smelled since Maeve stuck her lava shit charred asshole in my face ( a whole other story there). I was beyond overcome with disgust! Bitch dropped a deuce-deuce right there in the designer shoe department of Nordstrom's!! She has the audacity to fart in the presence of Betsey Johnson, Miss Sixty, Moschino and in the name of things holy Dolce & Gabbana!!! I was floored and didn't know what to do but move to another area and realize how classless some people can be. We all fart but c'mon have SOME discreetness when out in public, especially in designer shoe departments!! This ordeal went so beyond myself and I'm not the kind the person that thinks about other people first at all but in that moment I endured for the sake of beautiful shoes. Absolutely classless indeed!

A couple months ago I read Skinema and I'd recommend it to EVERYONE. If you haven't read it, then get on that now. The jist of it is that Chris Nieratko was suppose to write porn reviews but instead wrote mindless ramblings about his amazingly fucked up life that turned out to be more entertaining then porn anyways at certain points. My favorite story is one in which Nieratko and his friends hire a stripper for a bachelor party or something like that. Rudy Ray Moore died a week ago today and if you don't know who he is then you have to cop some of his movies before you die. He was a crazy, politically incorrect, pimping motherfucker who didn't give a fuck! His best movie work was the fly ass pimp character Dolemite. But you might also recognize this mofo from other great works such as Monkey Hustle, Disco Godfather, The Great White Hype, Shaolin Dolemite, Big Money Hu$tla$, Vampire ASSassin and Lil' Pimp just to name a few. I really recommend Lil' Pimp it has everybody from Carmen Electra to Mystikal to William Shatner in that one but see the Dolemite movies first.

Never saw The Human Tornado but I deff back up Dolemite. What I was doing watching it at 10 years old I don't know but it was educational somehow I'm sure of it. Besides acting and producing Moore was also a comedian and musician and made an appearance on Big Daddy Kane's album Taste of Chocolate and did some work with 2 Live Crew. Like always though with all greatness comes a force that shits on it, calls it an artful re-make and tries to charge you 13$ to see it at your local theater. There was suppose to be a re-make of Dolemte starring this guy.

I really got into this blogging thing at one point and was enjoying writing about whatever but things have taken a new direction. First off I'd rejoined the work force and was kick out on my ass just as quickly. Losing a job out of nowhere sucks serious balls but losing a job b/c the boss's niece (who can't do the job for shit) needs a job then that's like being ferociously throat fucked against your will. Just as quickly my body decides to become an incubation of bacteria. Started off as just a sore throat and now I'm full blown fever, muscle aches, stuffed, cough, you get the idea. I haven't left my house in a couple days and I'm going crazy. All this, among other problems, sums up that September hasn't been a good month. Actually it hasn't been a good year in general but that's another story. So sorry to all 2 of you out there but I'm taking a break till I get better. Personally I think the spread is terrible. Considering the fact that the whole point was to channel Michelle Obama I think Bazaar went with the wrong model. All I see is crazy Tyra trying to model the concept as best she can and it looks really forced. I think a more media unknown model would have been much better choice because then you wouldn't solely be focusing on the model rather then the photo as a whole. Lately I've been wanting to see a movie but seeing as it's gotten to the point where you have to take out a small loan to actually see one (11$ a tix not including snacks!), I only see about 2 or 3 a year. However, I've kinda been enticed to see this new joint mostly because Method's in it, but that still doesn't guarantee that it'd be worth the 20$ I'd be dropping (gummies and a drink total to 8$ on top of the 11$). Yeah my cheap ass does the math but c'mon now we all do! Here's the trailer.

This movie just seems like a less gritty, more free spirit version of KIDS or something along that. If you've seen it, let me know what's up.

Finally got around to checking out the full Vogue Italia "Black" issue and I was impressed. My Hair-itage

PS I'm black if this hasn't been evident, I'm actually not sure if it has so I just wanted clear the air now. After surfing through the usual sites I hit up I came across this amazing movie.

After doing some more research I found out that it's actually a documentary called My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage and that I'm 3 years late for the premiere but I got here when I could. I love being black and I've never been ashamed of it in any way but it's refreshing to know that something like this is out there that doesn't just explain but also educates other races (and black people as well) about our hair. Growing up in a white community and being asked questions like "Can I touch it?" or "Why is your hair like that?" really pissed the hell out of my 8 year old ass and my usual answer was "I don't know that's just way it is. Why don't you go ask your mom or something?". Obviously I know now that being educated about black hair isn't something that most white people would have at the top of their list just like I'm too busy to learn about Ramadan (is that right?) but now there's no excuses. So I'm gonna cop a copy of this fo sho while eating some KFC and drinking Colt 45!!!!!

As laid back as my style is on the everyday basis there is couture whore inside me that ravages the pages of Vogue and W magazines and today that part of me is mourning the death of Yves Saint Laurent. Not only being at the fashion forefront of 20th century French haute couture, YSL was responsible for popularizing the beatnik look (considered hipster today) back in the 60's, was the first designer to use black models in his fashion shows and for creating the most famous (arguably) classic tuxedo suit for women called "Le Smoking" suit.
Not even Coco Chanel herself put such a feminine touch on the classic Chanel suit. No diss to Coco what so ever but her take on the feminine suit still kept a lot of the male structure. So with that said R.I.P. YSL and thank you so much for a black woman in YSL irresistible to all men!
